ICEE Swap out live Motorola stations

ICEE Swap out live Motorola stations

This was the first volume-based project of its kind that Nokia had undertaken globally.

It involved decommissioning and swap out of live Motorola base stations, replaced by Nokia equipment. (2G Macrocell BTS and BSC) It covered South of England and Northern Ireland.

The project was organised on an ‘event’ basis.  Each event catered for the swap out of all Motorola base stations connected to a base station controller (average 50 sites per event).  The majority of ‘event’ activity was conducted during the weekend due to the requirement of network outages.  A total of 57 events were required to complete the project, each requiring a very detailed level of planning and co-ordination. On average, 26 engineers were required per event.

The project was a glowing success with great praise from the customer.
