Brompton Bike Hire

Modern, Iconic British Design, brought to life by ICEE. Brompton, famous maker of lightweight foldable and portable cycles, saw an opportunity to set up a network of unmanned but secure rental stations for its bikes.

Working with Seymour Powell, our Manufacturing Sector took the product from concept, to something that could be physically manufactured via a variety of fabrication processes, and then delivered across the United Kingdom.

Our Manufacturing Sector works hand in hand with our staff across ICEE, to continue to deliver, install and maintain the Bike Docking Stations across the country.

Everything we do starts with getting the design right. Our in-house team works closely with project partners to make sure ideas are practical, buildable and suited to our manufacturing capabilities from day one. That means checking tolerances, materials and how each part will be produced, as well as making sure designs are laid out efficiently across our CNC machinery before anything goes into production.

Once that groundwork is in place, manufacturing gets underway. Sheet materials are cut using our fibre laser systems, allowing us to produce accurate components quickly and consistently. From there, parts are cleaned and prepared for folding, where flat sheets begin to take shape and the structure of the product starts to come together. Components that need joining move into our fabrication workshops, where our engineers use MIG, TIG and spot welding depending on the application. Assemblies are built up piece by piece before being sent for powder coating, giving a durable, high-quality finish ready for long-term use.

Final build and integration take place in our assembly workshops, where mechanical assembly and electrical installation are completed together. Every unit is fully tested and inspected before being packed and handed over to our field teams, who install and commission the equipment on site. From first sketch to final installation, it’s all handled by ICEE Group under one roof.
